Why This Encyclopedia Exists
There is a lot of room for people to improve their experience, and very little education about how to do it. Most of what exists is assumption: either you’re a roller or you’re not.
That isn’t true. Anyone who wants to roll can learn. They just need to know which questions to ask, what to look for, and what improvement actually looks and feels like. This encyclopedia exists to share that, and to give everyone the chance to raise their own standard for their own experience.
The gap it fills
The biggest gap is between beginner and intermediate: the stage where you develop your own preferences. Right now most people are offered two options, a pre-roll or a cone, and that’s it. There is a whole craft in between.
What it hopes to do
To show the plant and the people who enjoy it in a more positive light, and to set a higher, more thoughtful standard for how it is enjoyed. If it changes even one person’s assumptions, it has done its job.
These techniques belong to everyone
None of these techniques were invented here. They aren’t owned by anyone. They are shared so they can be used, and so the experience can be seen as something that can lift the mood, improve the space around you, and help you be at your best.
A vision for the future of the craft
- Master rollers, recognized for the skill.
- A new category of enjoyment, built on a higher standard.
- Better tips and better paper, including smaller, thinner papers.
- A more personal relationship with what you consume, one that enhances who you are rather than distracting you from it.
As more education becomes available, more people will expect more from what they consume. It is still early to say exactly what that will look like.
The responsibility that comes with a standard
- Stay open to criticism.
- Keep learning, including from other people.
- Live the standard: roll and enjoy the way the standard describes, as a positive experience rather than a distraction.
What would make it complete
Improvement. If the experience can be made better, and if hope can grow, that is what completion means.
